Craft beer industry puts ’em up for The Purge this Saturday

If you can’t wait until April 8th for the third annual B.C. Beer Wars craft beer boxing fundraiser at the Croatian Cultural Centre, this Saturday, Eastside Boxing Club has a preview of the participating plucky pugilists at The Purge.

The event, which takes place at the gym in Chinatown, features more than 50 fighters who will be sparring in two-minute rounds to determine the final fight card for the big show next month. Fighters that prove themselves worthy in the ring this Saturday will make it on the bill for the main event.

Taking part will be a motley crew of craft beer industry “professionals” who are all pitching in and putting up their dukes to help raise money for Eastside’s afterschool youth programs.

Among the many competitors putting on the gloves this weekend will be Kelli “Boom-Boom” Sturkenboom of Faculty Brewing, Liam “Payday” Peyton of Whistler Brewing and Russell Brewing’s Doug “The Thug” Embury. They are all violent, terrifying people, and watching them pummel the shit out of each other will be endlessly entertaining.

Sadly, I, Rob “The Human Punching Bag” Mangelsdorf will not be taking part. Darn bone spurs…

The Purge starts at 2pm this Saturday at 238 Keefer St. in Vancouver. Admission is only $5 at the door, and there’s a cash bar with craft beer all day long (the event goes until 11pm). Basically, it’s a big party, but with boxing.

Tickets for the B.C. Beer Wars main event on April 8 at the Croatian Cultural Centre are on sale now (but going fast) at BCBeerWars.com.
