Vote now for the 2018 Growler B.C. Craft Beer Awards

Welcome to the inaugural Growler Craft Beer Awards, AKA, the Growlies!

This year, The Growler is launching its first ever craft beer contest, celebrating all of the awesomeness that is B.C. craft beer. Unlike traditional beer awards, the Growlies will be decided by YOU, the beer-drinking public.

With the help of our panel of craft beer experts, we’ve narrowed the field to between five and 10 nominees in each category.

This is where you get to have your say: between Oct. 4 and 22, you can vote online for the beers and breweries you think are the best in B.C. Your votes will determine the winners in each category.

Since we can’t make the Growlies happen without your support and participation, those who take part in the online poll will be entered to win a super duper mega awesome craft beer prize package.

Once the polls close, the final votes will be counted to determine a winner for each category. The results will be published in The Growler’s Winter 2018 issue, out Dec. 1, 2018.

Thanks for participating and good luck!

Cheers,

Rob Mangelsdorf, editor

OUR METHODOLOGY:

Unlike BJCP-sanctioned contests, the Growlies will largely be decided by the beer-drinking public, giving the consumer the final say on what beer they think is best.

The winners will be decided by a two-part process. First, a panel of close to 20 craft beer experts from across the province—including Cicerones, certified beer judges, craft beer journalists and industry insiders—will weigh in on what beers they would like to see nominated, in order to narrow the field to between five and 10 nominees in each category. Judging criteria focuses on the overall impression of the beer, as opposed to adherence to a specific style. Participating experts can nominate as many beers/breweries as they would like. The nominations are then tallied, vetted and compiled into a curated short list for each category.

Once the short list of nominations for each category has been created, the public will get to have their say. Via an online poll, the public will get to vote for which beer/brewery they think is tops in the province. The online poll closes Oct. 22, 2018, and final votes will then be counted to determine a winner for each category. The results of the Growlies will be published in The Growler’s Winter 2018 issue, out Dec. 1, 2018.
