Vancouver Craft Beer Week kicks off this Friday, and to celebrate a full decade of awesomeness, VCBW has teamed up with some of the best breweries in the province to create its annual collaboration beer. Brewed at Four Winds Brewing Co. in Delta, with input from Burnaby’s Dageraad Brewing and Vancouver’s Powell Brewery, Ten is a dry-hopped table saison that is apparently bursting with exotic fruit flavours, coming in nice and light at just 4.2% ABV.
I say “apparently,” because, while I had really hoped to tell you, dear reader, just how delicious this beer is, a particularly nasty bout of tonsillitis has meant that I’m under strict doctor’s orders not to ingest any alcohol. Until this Friday. At 4:30 p.m.
While I anxiously await the antibiotics to run their course, I can only relate what I have heard from my many trusted sources—that this beer is friggin’ delicious.
Inspired by historic Belgium classics but brewed with New World hops, Ten features tangy sacch trois yeast to accentuate the tropical, citrus and stone fruit flavours derived from Sabro and Enigma hops. The result is a refreshing and fruit-forward beer, perfect for the hot summer weather that Vancouver Craft Beer Week inevitably brings with it. Or so I’ve been told.
Thankfully (both for me and you), Ten will be available this Friday at the VCBW 2019 Kickoff: 10th Anniversary Party at Beaumont Studios (316 West 5th Ave.). The party gets underway at 6 p.m., so exactly 90 minutes after I’m cleared for alcoholic consumption, which is very convenient. And if you hurry, I might even save you a few cans. Speaking of cans, all bevvies will be served in cans as a riff on the traditional 10th anniversary gift of aluminum, and you are encouraged to dress in your silvery, sparkly and glittery best for the occasion. Visit VancouverCraftBeerWeek.com for all the details.
