The B.C. Beer Awards launched its first-ever collab beer this week, a fresh-hopped kolsch brewed by 2017 Brewery of the Year-winner Mount Arrowsmith Brewing and 2017 Rookie of the Year, Backcountry Brewing.
Called Group Project, the beer was brewed at BREWHALL in Vancouver, with proceeds of the sale of the beer to be used to for grants for students in Simon Fraser University’s Craft Beer and Brewing Essentials Program.
Group Project was brewed with German malts provided by Brewers Supply Group and fresh Lumberjack hops, generously donated by B.C. Hop Company, picked at its farm just hours before brewing. The result is a refreshing and clean kolsch-style beer, which sits at 5.0% ABV and 23 IBU.
The beer will be available next week on tap at Mount Arrowsmith Brewing, Backcountry Brewing, BREWHALL, as well as at the 2018 B.C. Beer Awards, Oct. 20. Group Project will also be available at selected tap houses in Vancouver, including Alibi Room, St. Augustines, Bells & Whistles, Central City Pub Beatty, 12 Kings Pub, Timber, Tap & Barrel Olympic Village, Tap & Barrel Convention Centre and Tap & Barrel Shipyards.
The sold-out 2018 BC Beer Awards & Festival is taking place at the Croatian Cultural Centre, 3250 Commercial Drive in Vancouver on Oct. 20, 2018, from 4-9pm.
