Voting for The Growler’s 2019 B.C. Craft Beer Readers’ Choice Awards closes Oct. 25 at noon, so act now to have your say on B.C.’s best beers, and you could win a luxury helicopter craft beer tour from Sky Helicopters, as well as top-of-the-line homebrewing equipment and starter kits from Barley’s Homebrewing.
The Growlies are B.C.’s only province-wide craft beer readers’ choice awards, celebrating every style of awesome craft beer B.C. has to offer. Unlike traditional beer awards, the Growlies will be decided by YOU, the beer-drinking public. With the help of our panel of craft beer experts, we’ve narrowed the field to 10 nominees in each beer style category. And if you don’t like our choices, that’s fine! This year you can write in your own picks instead!
Between now and Oct. 25, 2019, you can vote online (see form below) for the beers and breweries you think are the best in B.C. Your votes will determine the winners in each category. Once the polls close, the final votes will be counted to determine a winner for each category. The results will be published in The Growler’s Winter 2019/2020 issue, out Dec. 1, 2019.
By voting for your favourite B.C. beers and breweries, you are entered to win one of four great craft beer prizes. First prize is a helicopter craft beer tour from SKY Helicopters, which is taking B.C. brewing to new heights with its West Coast Craft Beer Flight. The tour features an exciting helicopter flight to the base of the pristine Coast Mountains before landing in the backcountry to sample a complimentary selection of West Coast craft beers.
Additionally, we have three great prizes from Barley’s Homebrewing in New Westminster, including a 23-litre Deluxe Starter Kit (includes 30 L primary fermenter, 23 L glass carboy, airlock and bung, easy-siphon with hose and bottle filler, hydrometer and test jar, no-rinse sanitizer, large spoon and instruction guide), an 11.5-litre All Grain Revolution kit (includes 11.5 L glass carboy, 19 L stainless steel pot, 19 L nylon mesh bag, siphoning equipment, mash paddle, hydrometer and testing jar, airlock and bung, no-rinse sanitizer and instruction guide) and a Blichmann Hellfire Burner.
Thanks for participating and good luck!

Methodology
Award winners are be decided by a two-part process. First, a panel of close to 25 craft beer experts from across the province—including Cicerones, certified beer judges, craft beer journalists and industry insiders—weigh in on what beers they would like to see nominated, in order to narrow the field to 10 nominees in each beer style category. Judging criteria focuses on the overall impression of the beer, as opposed to adherence to a specific style. Participating experts can nominate as many beers/breweries as they would like. The nominations are then tallied, vetted for style suitability and production eligibility and them compiled into a curated nomination list for each category. Preference is given to packaged releases, as opposed to limited draft-only releases. Each category has a minimum of one nomination from Metro Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Interior B.C.
Once the short list of nominations for each category has been created, the public will get to have their say. Via an online poll, the public will get to vote for which beer/brewery they think is tops in the province. Voters aren’t limited to the nominations, however, and can write-in a beer if they feel it should be considered.
The online poll closes Oct. 25, 2019, at 12:00 p.m. noon. The final votes will then be counted to determine a winner for each category. The results of the Growlies will be published in The Growler’s Winter 2019/2020 issue, out Dec. 1, 2019, and online at TheGrowler.ca.
