Calling all craft beer industry folks: registration is now open for the fifth annual Beer Wars charity boxing event.

All net proceeds from the main event in April go to Vancouver’s Eastside Boxing Club to fund the many social programs it offers, including after school programs for at-risk youth, victims of violence and self-defense for women and LGBTQ+.

Which means you have four months to get in shape and be molded into a lean, mean, beer-drinking-and-boxing-for-charity machine by coach Dave Schuck and his team.

Participants can expect to get run ragged, pummelled and berated on a near daily basis—and love every minute of it.

“Beer Wars is a great way to get to know more people in your industry, get in amazing shape, keep your New Year’s Resolutions, and above all, do good for the Downtown Eastside community,” says Schuck.

Go to BeerWars.com to register. In order to participate, you must be sponsored by a brewery, and that brewery must donate 50L of beer for the main event. You also need to raise a minimum of $500 in donations.

Orientation takes place Jan. 18 at Eastside Boxing Gym (238 Keefer St.) at 2pm. Wear a t-shirt or sweater from your representing brewery. There will be a Q&A, DJs, live sparring demonstrations and $5 beer.

Training starts Jan. 14, with classes scheduled for days and nights, weekdays and weekends. Registration fees are $150, including Boxing B.C. membership fees and participants are responsible for supplying their own equipment: wraps, gloves, and mouthguard.
