One of Vancouver’s oldest independent breweries is closed for a while.

Storm Brewing has announced it will be closed for several weeks (likely through the spring) after a clerical error.

“Due to a licensing oversight on our end, we are closed until this issue is resolved,” the business states on social media posts.

The hope is that they’ll be open in summer, the post continues, but an exact date has not been announced.

“The oversight was a human error on our end! We are being helped out to correct it,” states Storm in a response to a comment on Facebook.

In another comment, Storm Brewing notes that off-sales aren’t allowed.

The brewery is working with the provincial liquor agency to rectify the issue.

“We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs over three decades and this is another bump in the road,” reads the post.

Storm Brewing is one of the oldest craft beer makers in B.C. Since it opened in 1994, it’s been influential on the city’s craft beer scene, which is now well-known internationally. The brewery, located at 310 Commercial Dr. (with a tasting room), has been operating for 30 years.

It was in the news last summer after city staff initially told the brewery it was going to have to paint over its mural, which had been up for a decade. City council intervened and the mural is now protected.
