Fernie Brewing donates $100K to local charities

When it comes to giving back to its community, Fernie Brewing Co. walks the walk. This week the East Kootenay brewery announced that it had topped the $100,000-mark in donations to local charities since launching its Cheers to Charity program close to five years ago.

As part of the program, all profits from each sample flight sold in FBC’s tasting room go directly to a deserving non-profit group within the Fernie community. So far, more than 30 groups have received funds from the program, including the Elk River Alliance, which received a cheque for $5,265 from FBC this week.

“When we started the program, we were hoping to make a positive impact in the community by providing larger donations to local organizations,” says Lenka Hawrys, FBC’s marketing communications manager. “We are often one of the first contributors to a project, which can really help get new projects up and running. It really has been fun seeing these projects come to fruition, like the Fernie Nordic Society Hut. Craft beer and community go hand in hand, it’s a way for our customers to make their beer count!”

Past recipients have included the Fernie Trails Alliance, Elk Valley Hospice, Fernie Friends of Refugees, Fernie Seniors Society, Fernie Adaptive Ski, Wildsafe B.C., The Fernie Nordic Society, Fernie Friends for Friends and many more.
