Yeast Van block party brings breweries together

If you’re in Vancouver this weekend, you’ll need to check out the Yeast Van Block Party on Saturday. The event includes three of my favourite things: craft beer, barbecue and summer in East Van. You’ll also get a sneak peak at the soon-to-be opened Container Brewing.

Put on by the Yeast Van Brewery District Cooperative, the outdoor block party features tons of local craft breweries and distilleries pouring their awesome beer, DJs and delicious smoked meat courtesy of Big Day BBQ. Taking part will be Bomber Brewing, Luppolo, East Van, Off The Rail, Callister, Container, Strathcona, Hastings Mill, Postmark, Coal Harbour, Storm, Parallel 49, Odd Society Spirits, Resurrection Spirits, Andina, Powell, Strange Fellows and Superflux

The party takes place from 2-8pm on Saturday, Aug. 17 at Container Brewing, located at 1216 Franklin St. Tickets are $20 and include two drink tickets. After that, drink tickets are $5 for a 12-ounce pour. Tickets are available online here.

Lighthouse celebrates 21 years

If you’re on the Island, Esquimalt’s only craft brewery is now legally allowed to drink in the States, so they are naturally celebrating with a massive party this weekend. The party is family friendly and there’s going to be games, food, music, prizes, beer (duh) and a few surprises as well, according to the brewery. It’s also free to attend, which is great.

The festivities will be taking over the tasting room, outdoor picnic area and most of the parking lot, so expect a couple hundred people at least.

Things get going around 2pm this Saturday (Aug. 17) at Lighthouse’s brewery at 836 Devonshire Rd. and go until 9pm. More info online here.
