The first annual Penticton Beer Week launches this weekend, with eight days of craft beer events from Oct. 19 to 26.
Penticton has long been recognized as one of Canada’s best beer towns, and according to organizers, there is a saying that it takes a lot of great craft beer to make fine wine. It is a natural fit then, that in the middle of wine country, Penticton also has a dynamic beer scene with seven craft breweries.
The Penticton Beer Week events include:
Saturday, Oct. 19: Penticton Oktoberfest
Sunday, Oct. 20: Neighbourhood Brewing industry kick-off at The Nest & Nectar
Tuesday, Oct. 22: The Highway 97 Big Bar Takeover at The Barking Parrot Bar
Wednesday, Oct. 23: Brewers’ Showdown at Cannery Brewing
Thursday, Oct. 24: Neighbourhood beer-paired dinner at Brodo
Thursday, Oct. 24: Work Boots, Beer and Bacon at the Barley Mill Brew Pub
Friday, Oct. 25: Bustin’ the Barrel at Slackwater Brewing
Saturday, Oct. 26: Laughs and Drafts with Tin Whistle at Craft Corner Kitchen
All seven Penticton breweries teamed up to create Penticton Beer Week’s official collab beer, Community Common. This California common-style beer is medium-bodied with malty character and fruit notes for an easy-drinking and sessionable brew.
“This limited release collaboration beer is a fundraiser beer, where a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local non-profit/charity,” said organizer Kim Lawton in a press release this week. “Partial proceeds from this beer will support the Penticton and Area Cycling Association (PACA). They do an amazing job of developing and enhancing our trails and local cycling infrastructure that benefits locals and tourists alike.”
Community Common will be launched in draft format at the breweries and a number of local restaurants in Penticton and area during Penticton Beer Week. It will also be sold in four-packs of 473 mL cans at private liquor stores in Penticton and beyond.
