On Tap: New beer from Driftwood, Fuggles & Warlock and Red Truck

Here’s what we’re killing the pain with this week…

Mad Bruin by Driftwood Brewing

7.7% ABV • 650 mL bottles

The latest release in Driftwood’s Bird of Prey series is Mad Bruin Sour Brown Ale. Last brewed in 2012, Driftwood decided to resurrect this oud bruin-style sour and blend it with original barrels from the 2012 vintage, adding a deep complexity including fine leather, cocoa, lemons and caramel to the profile of rich malt, ripe fruit and vanilla oak.

Shizuka Blackberry Sour by Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks

6.3% ABV • 7 IBU • 650 mL bottles

Formerly exclusively available at Cactus Club restaurants and at Fuggles & Warlock in Richmond, Shizuka has finally made its way into bottles. This blackberry kettle soured ale is tart and juicy, with a stunning opaque, deep crimson colour. Well-balanced acidity with a fruit-forward flavour.

Haulin’ Some Mass New England Hazy IPA by Red Truck Beer Co.

6.5% ABV • 45 IBU • 355 mL cans

Vancouver’s Red Truck Beer has a ton of new beers in the works, the first of which landed this week. Haulin’ Some Mass is part of Red Truck’s Spring Seasonal Series, along with Baja Bound Mexican Lager and El Space Camino Dry Hopped Pale Ale. Haulin’ Some Mass is billed as a medium bodied hazy New England-style IPA packed with intense tropical fruit aromas of pineapple, papaya and passion fruit, a mild hoppy bitterness and is balanced with a slight malty sweetness that finishes clean.
