News and Notes: Holiday edition

Time sure flies when you misuse your Beervent Calendar—according to mine, Christmas was yesterday! But, one can be forgiven for getting off track when when your fridge is brimming with delicious B.C. brews, lovingly collected and numbered for your (in)convenience.

This has been quite the year for B.C. beer, fraught with both struggles and triumphs. From fires, tariff uncertainty, and shocking closures, to stories of resilience and community, openings, and far too many notable tipples to count, there was always something happening.

Apropos, 2025 is going down swinging:

Moody Ales has announced it is closing December 14. Kristina Mameli photo

RIP Moody Ales

We end 2025 with the loss of one of the original players on Port Moody’s Brewers Row. Moody Ales & Co will cease operations this Sunday (December 14th) after an 11 year run. The closure was announced via social media December 4th.

The post reads: “This was not an easy decision, and we want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who has supported us, gathered with us, and enjoyed our beers over the years…Thank you for being part of the Moody Ales & Co story. It has meant more to us than we can say.”

No word on whether the space at the end of Murray Street will live on as another brewery.

CAMRA BC and CAMRA Victoria Concluding Operations After 35 Years

After 35 years of craft beer advocacy, CAMRA BC (Campaign for Real Ale) has announced that it will dissolve come January. A press release denotes success rather than sadness: “While this marks the end of CAMRA BC as an organization, it also reflects the success of our mission: today’s craft beer consumer enjoys an extraordinary abundance of choice, quality, and innovation. The BC beer scene has grown beyond what we could have imagined — and we’re proud to have contributed to that evolution.”

A final gathering will take place this Sunday (December 14th) at Spinnakers Brewpub from 6-9pm.
