5th Annual Beard and Mustache Challenge @ Strange Fellows

Nov. 21, 7-9pm • Vancouver

The bewhiskered and moustachioed are invited to Strange Fellows Brewing in Vancouver for its 5th Annual Beard and Mustache Challenge in honour of the Most Terrible Wolf Day, and to help raise funds for Movember. A $5 donation to Movember gets you contest entry plus a beer. Prizes will be awarded for most impressive beard, best moustache, best pseudo-stache (open to everyone) and the Golden Whisker Award (awarded to the most hirsute member of the brewing community). Art x Craft: Wabori

Nov. 21 and 22 • Vancouver

The worlds of craft beer, spirits and Irezumi, the Japanese art of tattooing are explored at Art x Craft: Wabori. Japanese tattooists Horinao and Horishun from Tokyo, Japan, join East Vancouver’s Storm Brewing and Odd Society Spirits for two unique events. On Thursday night, Storm Brewing Company will accompany Horinao and serve up the innovative and unpretentious brews that made it a Vancouver legend. Storm will lead you through a hands-on guided beer mixing using house-made tinctures. You’ll literally choose your own adventure and create a personalized Storm beer. On Friday night, Horishun shares the spotlight with local artisan distiller, Odd Society Spirits. This fusion brings old-world traditions together with seasonal West Coast distillations. Joel McNichol, Distiller at Odd Society Spirits will be warming your soul with one-of-a-kind distillations, while Horishun shares insights about his craft. The events take place 6:30-10pm on Nov. 21 and 22 at Dayton Boots (2250 East Hastings St.), tickets are $45 (includes two beverages) online at Eventbrite.ca.

 

Hopscotch

Nov. 22 and 23 • Vancouver

This roaming festival of beer and whisky returns to the PNE Forum with close to 150 brands of beer, whisky, cider and spirits available to sample. Thankfully there are plenty of food options available, because you’re going to need them. HopscotchFestival.com

 

Bierspeil

Nov. 22, 11am-9pm • New Westminster

This one-day curling tournament invites the hands that stir the mash tun to compete for a cause and celebrate great beers together. Teams from B.C. craft breweries will take to the ice for an afternoon of curling where someone will sweep home the championship trophy. The winner of the tournament brings home the Bierspeil trophy and all profits go toward charities to support rescue animals. The fun takes place at the Royal City Curling Club in New Westminster.

 

North Island Craft Beer Festival

Nov. 23, 1-5pm • Campbell River

Campbell River’s first-ever craft beer festival takes place this weekend at the Campbell River Community Centre, with all proceeds benefitting the non-profit Campbell River Community Foundation. 14 craft breweries from across Vancouver Island will be pouring more than 30 beers at the event, with complimentary food provided by the Campbell River Golf and Country Club.
