On tap: New releases from Fernie, Deep Cove and Luppolo

Here’s what we’re looking forward to tossing down our gullet this week…

Fernie Brewing Co., Black Mammoth Winter Ale (8.0% ABV, 25 IBU)

Fernie’s Black Mammoth Winter Ale is back to warm our hearts and our livers. This decadent winter warmer features dark organic cocoa and Seville orange peel and was aged on oak for added smoothness complexity.

Black Mammoth is available in 650mL bottles in limited quantities across B.C. until the end of December, so keep an eye out for this rich, malt-forward beast.

Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers, Noël Dubbel 2017 (7.7% ABV, 18 IBU)

The 2017 edition of Deep Cove’s Noël is aged on roasted dates, vanilla beans, and sea salt. After an extended conditioning, it was re-fermented in bottle with Brettanomyces for some added complexity, and promises notes of clove, brown sugar, sweet pie crust, and a mild salinity.

If you’re thinking about putting this one in the cellar, think again. Due to the delicate flavour profile, Deep Cove does not recommend extended aging, so drink away!

Available in 375mL bottles.

Luppolo Brewing, Serie Selvatica Wild Saison with Pear (6.0% ABV)

The second beer in Luppolo’s can-conditioned series is a wild saison brewed with B.C. pears and Brettanomyces yeast. It’s hazy, funky, tart and tasty, with subdued acidity and spicy citrus flavours.

Available in tall cans and four-packs at the brewery.
