Here’s what Ricky Gervais told us to drink this week…
The Weather in Space by Brassneck Brewery
Hazy pale ale • 5.5% ABV • On tap
This hazy boi from Vancouver’s Brassneck has tons of Citra Cryo hops, Sabro and Bru-1. What are Cryo hops? Glad you asked. “Cryo” is a relatively new way of processing hops where hop cones are cryogenically frozen with liquid nitrogen, isolating lupulin glands from the leafy greens, allowing you to isolate the more resinous hop material while reducing vegetal and astringent flavours. In short, they dank and juicy AF.
Kaffeeklatsch Coffee Dunkelweizen by Ravens Brewing Co.
Dunkelweizen • 5.8% ABV • 473 mL tall cans
Abbotsford’s Ravens Brewing Co. teamed up with Smoking Gun Coffee Roasters to create this strong, dark wheat ale with coffee. Kaffeeklatsch Coffee Dunkelweizen used ethically sourced Java Cimanggung coffee beans that “denote slightly sweet cherry and dark chocolate notes.” The dunkelweizen beer style, meanwhile, brings spicy aromas and flavours of banana bread.
Megalomaniac Märzen by Silver Valley Brewing Co.
Marzen • 6.0% ABV • 20 IBU • 473 mL tall cans
Maple Ridge’s Silver Valley Brewing Co. has rereleased this Oktoberfest classic (“Märzen” means March, after all). This malt-forward lager is smooth and flavourful, and goes perfectly with a mustard-slathered soft pretzel.
