KPU Open House
Kwantlen Polytechic University’s brewing program is training the next generation of craft brewers, and this week they’re opening their doors to the public so you check out what they are up to. The open house takes place this Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6:30 to 8:30pm, and includes a guided tour of the state-of-the-art brewery, a meet-and-greet with KPU Brewing faculty and samples of student-brewed craft beers (and pretzels, too!).
KPU is the only institution in B.C. to offer a university diploma in brewing with their own on-campus brewery, and its students recently won a bronze medal for Best German Wheat Ale at the B.C. Beer Awards.
So if you’re interested in becoming a head brewer, opening your own brewery or just want a behind-the-scenes tour of the teaching brewery, come down to KPU’s Langley campus (20901 Langley Bypass) this Thursday.

Fest of Ale donates $60K to local charities
For more than 20 years, the annual Okanagan Fest of Ale in Penticton has been a guaranteed good time, and it’s nice to know that all your debaucherous behaviour helps support the local community.
Earlier this month, the Okanagan Fest of Ale Society was able to donate $60,000 in net proceeds to more than 20 charitable organizations in the community.
“This is one of the largest disbursements to charity we’ve had,” said John Cruickshank, President of the Okanagan Fest of Ale Society. “[It] brings the total donations made by the Society to $637,660.”
Be sure to save the date for the 23rd annual Okanagan Fest of Ale: April 13 and 14, 2018. All your drinking is for a good cause, after all.
All Hallow’s Eve at Strange Fellows
You’re too old to trick or treat for candy, so dress up and get a free beer at Strange Fellows Brewing instead! On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Vancouver brewery is hosting an All Hallow’s Eve masquerade with live music from Las Estrellas, Vancouver’s own super-fantastic, all-female mariachi band.
The brewery will be tapping a cask of its chipotle-infused Blackmail stout, and all masquerading souls will receive a beer on the house. Beats the hell out of candy, if you ask me!
