Cariboo plants 18,000 trees

More than 18,000 seedlings will be planted in the B.C. Interior next spring as part of Pacific Western Brewing’s “Cariboo Cares” campaign.

PWB dedicated 25 cents from every six-pack of Cariboo product sold to help B.C. recover from this summer’s 1,000-plus wildfires that devastated more than a million hectares of forest land.

“The tally of September sales figures is finally complete and the results are fantastic,” said PWB sales manager Scott Rattee in a press release. “We will be able to plant 18,640 trees in 2018.”

The brewery has contracted with Smithers-based Summit Reforestation to begin planting trees in the spring.

“I have always believed our brewery should invest where we live and tree planting has been an important element of that giving since 2010,” said owner Kazuko Komatsu. “The reforestation program is one of my core commitments to the community and will endure for years to come.”

Rattee says the Cariboo Cares campaign was so successful that the company is considering a repeat in the near future.

Coquitlam Craft Beer Festival

More than 40 craft breweries will be at the top of the mountain at Westwood Plateau Golf and Country Club this weekend for the Coquitlam Craft Beer Festival. It’s a spectacular venue, so this should be a good one. There’s a pretty serious food component too, with 10 restaurants taking part.

The party takes place Friday from 7-9:30pm and again on Saturday from noon to 2:30pm. Make sure to come by The Growler booth and say hi!

Tickets still available at the festival’s website.

Luppolo turns one

Vancouver’s Luppolo Brewing is celebrating its first birthday this Saturday from 1-7pm with an outdoor dance party. Luppolo is turning its parking lot into a dance floor for the shindig, with special beers and lots of other surprises in the lounge. And hopefully cake (can’t have a birthday without cake!).

Details on Luppolo’s Facebook page.
