Some terrible news out of Squamish. The owners of the fledgling One Duck Brewing Company, which had hoped to be open before the end of the year, announced on Facebook that they might not open at all after getting righteously screwed by the person that sold them their brewing equipment (allegedly).
Here’s what One Duck had to say on social media about the situation:
Many people have been asking what the status of One Duck Brewery is. Unfortunately the business has had a year of extremely bad luck. The most recent situation is that the man who sold One Duck brewing equipment actually did not own the equipment as he was in debt to a mortgage company. As a result ODB has put all operations on hold for the last few months to try and resolve this situation. After hiring lawyers and consulting with anyone who can offer advice One Duck is on the verge of closing up shop (before even opening its doors) and filing for bankruptcy. The owner and his family moved to Squamish with the sole reason being to open a brewery in this beautiful town; investing all savings. Along with helping at home with his new twin babies and 3 year old daughter these days have become extremely stressful. We are hoping for a change of luck and to somehow get brewing, however the chances of that happening at this point are looking pretty slim. We welcome any advice or assistance through this difficult time.

Here’s some background on One Duck from the Squamish Chief, from back in June:
Jesse Paine, born and raised in Whistler, now makes his home in Squamish with his wife and their two-year-old daughter, and they are expecting twins. One Duck is considered a “nano-brewery,” which will make him smaller and slightly more specialized than his other compadres with batches of 200 litres each. He has a passion for traditional Belgian-style beers and will be producing brews that may be different to those we may have seen before. He will also be filling growlers and offering samples.
We here at The Growler wish Jesse, his family and the whole One Duck team the best of luck. Hopefully they can find a solution to the situation they’ve found themselves in, and get brewing before long!
