Given his last name, it was inevitable that Matt Beere would end up making craft beer for a living. The longtime homebrewer decided to go pro when some space became available in the North Vancouver building that houses the family timber business, and thus, Beere Brewing Co. was born.
The brewery has only been in operation for a few months, but it’s already earned a loyal following on the North Shore, and it’s easy to see why. Matt’s West Coast-style beers are well executed and delicious. Case in point: Go Easy, Beere’s dry-hopped pale ale.
Available in tall cans and on draft at the brewery, Go Easy is a super fruity, easy-going pale ale that radiates hoppy sunshine. If you’re desperate for vitamin D, this is about as close as you can get in beer form—and after six months of Vancouver drizzle, you’re going to need this.
One of the things I really appreciate about this beer is the restrained level of carbonation. I’m not a big fan of super fizzy, gassy beers that have me burping and bloated. Go Easy goes down just like it promises to, with enough carbonation to enliven the flavours and aromas of the beer, but not so much that you’ll be pumped full of gas.
Go Easy by Beere Brewing Co. (5.5% ABV, 27 IBU)
Appearance: Hazy straw gold, with a white, short-lived head.
Aroma: Passion fruit, tropical citrus, pineapple, pine.
Flavour: Tropical fruit, melon, passion fruit, citrus, pineapple, pine, floral hop notes, subtle biscuity malt character, moderate hop bitterness.
Body: Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel and a light, dry, hoppy finish. Moderate carbonation.
Pairs with: Jerk chicken, green mango salad, sun tan lotion and rickets.
